Sustainability
Creating a sustainable community is central to our vision for King’s Reach and has influenced many aspects of the design strategy.
• All the houses at King’s Reach will be built with environmental considerations in mind. They will include features such as high levels of thermal insulation, high performance glass, low water use fittings, use of natural sunlight, locally sourced materials to reduce energy consumption through transportation and provision for rainwater storage
• Renewable energy sources such as solar power, micro wind turbines and biomass boilers are also being considered
• Public transport infrastructure will be provided by Central Bedfordshire Council, funded by King’s Reach, with a new bus service running through the site
• New and enhanced cycle and pedestrian routes will provide safe links to Biggleswade town centre and the wider countryside and encourage residents to leave their cars at home
• Extensive tree planting and seeding of indigenous plants will create natural habitats and encourage populations of wild birds
• The plans for King’s Reach include land and funding for a new lower school, contributions towards Upper and Middle Schools and funding for medical facilities and a local community centre. These facilities will ensure the new population of King’s Reach can be sustainably supported and will overburden existing facilities
