Movement
Managing movement within King’s Reach and creating effective connections to the surrounding area will be of fundamental importance. King’s Reach will be a place where people come first not cars, and where a sense of place and community is encouraged.
Key Principles & Features
• An open ended and well-connected layout will provide maximum choice in how people want to travel and help promote alternatives to the car, e.g. walking, cycling or taking the bus
• All vehicle access, including buses, will be from the new Eastern Relief Road. This will help reduce any impact on the existing road network to the East of Biggleswade
• A practical approach to parking will ensure adequate levels of parking but in a manner that reduces visual impact. Much of the parking will be provided via parking courts located in the middle of a surrounding group of houses. This provides a secure environment via natural surveillance, helps channel traffic within the development and reduces its visual impact
• Bus stops within a five-minute walk from anywhere in King’s Reach will help encourage people to leave their cars at home
• By improving walking and cycling linkages, car dependency can be reduced and residents encouraged to use alternative means of transport for local journeys
