Landscape Design
The landscape design principles adopted by our designers will create an environment where buildings interact sympathetically with their surroundings.
Key Principles & Features
• A Linear Park, to the East of Biggleswade, will provide informal areas of public open space and a transitional area between the open countryside and King’s Reach
• The Linear Park will be planted with indigenous species and provide a variety of habitats that meet the aims of the Ivel and Ouse Countryside Project (link to Community Resource, Useful Links)
• New areas of planting will be used in the public open spaces to enhance and complement the existing landscape features
• Parks and green corridors, such as paths and bridleways, will create public spaces for new and existing residents to enjoy. These will be overlooked by dwellings to provide natural surveillance and supervision
Urban Design
King’s Reach has been designed to encourage a greater sense of community by incorporating design features that enable greater social interaction and provide places for people to meet.
Key Principles & Features
• A local community centre, including retail and recreational facilities, will create a ’heart’ for the community and a natural meeting place
• Landmark buildings, such as the local community centre, will be placed strategically to help give each locality its own identity and create distinct areas as you travel through King’s Reach
• Avenue tree planting along primary routes will mark out the most important streets and create a more attractive road network throughout the community
• Traffic signage will be kept to a minimum by designing streets and buildings to naturally calm traffic
